Ceramic Tint Vs Carbon Tint

Carbon Tint:

Typically composed of multiple layers, each serving a very specific purpose, however the exact composition may vary amongst different manufacturers. The base layer is usually made of polyester that provides structural integrity to the film. A layer of adhesive is applied to one side of the polyester film, along with a layer of carbon particles on the opposing side. To protect the film from scratches, dirt and other damages, a top coating made of scratch-resistant material is applied.

Carbon Tint Film offers a moderate level of heat rejection (IRR) (approximately 50%).

The carbon particles embedded within the film to help absorb and reflect solar heat to a certain extent. However the heat rejection capabilities of carbon tint can vary depending on the VLT, Manufacturer, and Overall quality of the film itself.

Ceramic Tint:

Typically composed of multiple layers, each serving a very specific purpose, however the exact composition may vary amongst different manufacturers. The base layer is usually made of polyester that provides structural integrity to the film. A layer of adhesive is applied to one side of the polyester film, along with a layer of ceramic particles on the opposing side. To protect the film from scratches, dirt and other damages, a top coating made of scratch-resistant material is applied.

Also known as the most premium grade of Tint Film. It's highly regarded for its advanced performance and properties. The primary component of ceramic tint the ceramic nanoparticles. They are extremely small, often measuring in the range of 10 - 100 nanometers. These ceramic particles are embedded within the and are responsible for it's unique properties, including heat rejection. (IRR)(approximately 99%)

*We offer both Ceramic / Carbon Tint Options in 5%, 20%, 35% (& 50% upon special request)*

VLT, IRR, UVR & TSER

VLT—Visible Light Transmittance
This is the amount of visible light that passes through window films, brightening up the interior.

IRR—Infrared Rejection
Infrared light is the biggest contributor to what we feel as heat. This measures how much of that heat is either reflected or reradiated outwards, resulting in a more comfortable interior.

UVR—Ultraviolet Rejection
Ultraviolet light is the biggest contributor to material degradation, such as fading paint, aging leather, and even skin cancer. Reducing ultraviolet light would result in greatly improved visual longevity for interior furnishings, and a much healthier interior environment, too.

TSER—Total Solar Energy Rejection
Total solar energy rejected by the film by either reflecting it away or absorbing it and reradiating it back outwards. Solar energy includes infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light.

These four measurements are the most crucial figures to determine a window film’s efficiency and effectiveness, and we test our films to make sure they meet our minimum standards.
